This album launches the Polish record label and design studio’s initial entry of its live series, highlighting European jazz and improvisation artists. On this outing, highly revered German clarinetist Theo Jorgensmann steers a trio date through jazz minimalism, avant-garde and other jazz-centric stylizations.

The band either expands or contracts via heated free-bop movements or when throttling back the diverse cadences. Jorgensmann’s lyrically rich lines are designed with blustery and speed-demon like phrasings as the trio occasionally emulates the hustle and bustle of life. Yet contrasts are in abundance as they also fuse moments of whimsy amid gobs of emotive sentiment into the grand schema. Moreover, Polish twin brothers, bassist Marcin Oles and drummer Bartlomiej Brat Oles generate an oscillating sequence of undercurrents, serving as a fertile undercurrent for Jorgensmann’s razor sharp improvisational jaunts.

On the aptly titled “Menace,” the trio executes a buoyant pulse, topped off by the clarinetist’s linear thematic forays. With this piece, the artists render punchy unison choruses and frantic interplay as they gravitate towards a zenith, accelerated by Brat Oles’ polyrhythmic solo. However, “Parbat,” is an extended work that develops like a multipart suite, awash with ethereal textures, capricious underpinnings and rolling storylines. Masters at work at work here…

Bracia Oleś od niemal dekady należą do elity kilku najlepszych i najbardziej wysublimowanych sekcji jazzowych w Polsce. O ich umiejętnościach (Marcin - kontrabas, Bartłomiej - perkusja), krążą legendy. Właściwie płyty nie oddają atmosfery alchemii i magii olesiowich koncertów. Z żelazną konsekwencją i uporem realizują wyznaczone cele, grają z coraz bardziej znanymi gwiazdami. Niepokorna synteza ekspresji i poezji wciągnie każdego kto trafi na ich misterium.


A nagrywali już z "nazwiskami" o nie byle jakim w świecie jazzu ciężarze gatunkowym m.in. z Davidem Murrayem, Kenny Wernerem, Erikiem Friedlanderem, czy świetnym klarnecistą Theo Jorgensmanem. Z tym ostatnim wydali dwie płyty. I właśnie tą drugą nagraną podczas koncertu w poznańskiej scenie "Na piętrze" zainaugurowali serię wydań "Live". Wydaje się, że to strzał w dziesiątkę. Koncert bowiem najlepiej definiuje obraz ich nieskrępowanej konwenansami wyobraźni opartej na wzajemnej relacji z publicznością. Wyszła rzecz pełna niuansów, pasteli ale też zaplątanych w melodykę klarnetu skomplikowanych figur stylistycznych obu panów "O". Coś dla amatorów wyrafinowanego avant jazzu. Nie do sypialni, nie do kotleta i nie jako tapeta. Do chłonięcia...
